Act Well
Being a voice actor is more than having a great voice. It’s about mastering the craft of acting. Dive into diverse scripts across anime, animation, video games, commercials, corporate, audiobooks, and more. Hone your technniques with guidance.
Develop a versatile vocal range by experimenting with pitch, tone, and pacing. Explore the subtleties of emotions and character traits. Invest time in vocal warm-ups, exercises, and vocal care to maintain consistency and flexibility in your performances.
Continuous practice and feedback refine your skills and expand your range. Learn from industry professionals, attend workshops, and seek guidance to refine your delivery and elevate your vocal presence and confidence.
Be Heard
Having the right microphone and knowing how to use it are critical. As a voice actor, you are the product and you want to make sure you sound your best. The good news is that in today’s world, you can find a microphone at any budget level.
In choosing a microphone, you are investing in an instrument itself. It has to be able to hear whispers and screaming. Also, knowing when to lean into the pop filter, and when you want to move away from the microphone assure the best recording.
You will also need a space to record. A walk-in closet full of clothes or a small room with moving blankets or acoustic foam on the walls works well. Of course, a VO booth is ideal. In all cases you shouldn’t hear noises from outside or the air conditioner inside.
Sell Yourself
The business of acting is just as important as being able to act. Once you have the voice acting skills, what’s next? You must become a good audio engineer. And you need the tools to market yourself in today’s competitive market.
You can have studio-level quality in your home studio and capabilities for powerful post-production all from your home studio. The more you know of the capabilities of your equipment, the more you are assured of getting a quality recording.
Voice Over Demos are the best calling cards for both prospective clients and agents. Learn which voice over demos you need, how to get them produced, and where to submit them. And don’t forget the importance of a professional online presence.
